weekend wrap up

Mom decided to do a DIY project. She wants to recover our big tree but decided to start a little smaller with one of our other scratchers.

So a couple of things. Sisal is itchy (and smells funny at first). It is going to take WAY more sisal than mom originally thought to cover the big tree. It takes a little longer than she thought. That being said, it is WAY cheaper than a new tree and really didn't take that long. Now on the the big tree (you can see it in the background).

Good news:
Cumin was ADOPTED on Saturday. A woman came in Friday, brought back her 15 year old son that evening and filled out an application. Everything checked out and mom spoke to them at length about how to help Cumin socialize in his new home. No other cats and while mom suggested adopting two, that wasn't their plan right now (though the new mom was open to it at a later date if they think it will be better for Cumin). Cumin is basically for the son, so they are going to set up the kitten stuff in his room and he is going to be the main one responsible. We expect a good report. Oh - and his new name will be Julius. 4. Super news for Cumin/Julius! Paws crossed all goes well.

Also a super idea to recover the scratcher (and tree). Where did your mom get the sisal, Home Depot/Lowes? Some other place? And how did she attach the ends, glue? Or just knots? Would love to know so our human can try it herself!

    1. we are sure home depot/lowes has it but she got it from the local hardware store. she would like to get a thicker rope next time but this was the biggest they had. as for attachment, she bought something called "cable staples" that she hammered over the ends into the post. slam them in hard enough and we don't think they will come back out. some things you read suggest gluing everything but then how do you get it back off to fix it again? mol

  15. I'm glad to hear Cumin has a new home. I'm curious why they are adopting a cat for a teenager of 15, who will probably be going off to college in a few years. Did you ask about that--if the young man's parents are prepared to care for the cat after the next few years? Was the teenager especially interested in cats? and why now, not before? I know I was asking for a dog from probably age 5 or 6 onward, and it was only when I was 12 and my brother 11 that my parents decided it was a good time for us to adopt (finally!) because we were mature enough to help out. But our dog was a part of the family and everyone loved him and helped out.
